Tasting notes:
Isabella Chardonnay has a ripe, full-bodied nose with a hint of melon, pear and apple. The integration of the subtle oaking and the mineralogy of the wine creates an elegant mouthfeel and a lasting finish - the result of ageing in French Oak.
Vinification:
Named after the beautiful Isabella Melck, the grapes were hand harvested before being whole-bunch pressed. The free run juice is chilled to about 8˚ Celsius for 2 days. The clear juice is then taken off and pumped into 500 litre barrels where it undergoes natural fermentation. After the alcoholic fermentation the wine underwent 100% malo-lactic fermentation and spent nine months in wood before racked and blended. It was then stabilized for a month before it was bottled and labelled. Elegant Burgundian style Chardonnay with notes of citrus and a lingering mineral finish. Wood is well integrated around a juicy fruit centre with a long lingering aftertaste. Appeal’s to both the wooded and un-wooded Chardonnay drinkers.
